HEARST 135TH ANNIVERSARY: A CASE STUDY
In the spring of 2022, Hearst Communications, Inc. asked Huascar & Company to help them celebrate 135 years in business. The challenge was to create a birthday cake and cupcakes for the occasion, using the company’s logo and the colorful chevrons of its Hearst Forward campaign.
We were excited to work with Hearst because we are familiar with so many of its products and services: magazine brands such as Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping and Men’s Health, among others; cable networks such as A+E, History, Lifetime and ESPN; and even one of our favorite cartoon characters, Popeye! We were impressed by the company’s emphasis on the values of social good and partnership, a commitment it proves through its initiatives in support of organizations such as the Hetrick-Martin Institute, the United Way, and the Equal Justice Initiative.
The birthday cake was huge—3 feet tall—and a huge hit! We also baked, decorated, packaged, and delivered 2,400 cupcakes for the event, which took place in the beautiful Hearst Tower. Chef Huascar was honored to participate in the cake-cutting ceremony and was happy to meet Steve Swartz, the president and CEO of the company as well as all the employees who came by to take part in the celebration.
